Sri Subramanya Bhujangam by Sri Bhagavatpada Shankaracharya/Sri Adi Shankara is believed to be a panacea for any ills we may have - health, relations, issues owing to planetary positions in one's horoscope ....

Reciting or meditating on this great hymn has been beneficial for scores of devotees for ages.

Sri Bhagavatpada Shankaracharya/Sri Adi Shankara, was afficted by an ailment, owing to some reason. HE was staying in Gokarna (North Karnataka) at that time. Lord Shiva (Lord Mahabaleshwara) of Gokarna appeared in His dream and instructed Him to go to TiruChendur, the holy abode of His Son Lord Sri Subramanya/Muruga/Karthikeya and get rid of His disease. As ordained by Lord Mahabaleshwara, Sri Shankaracharya set off for TiruChendur. On reaching TiruChendur, He took a dip in the sea and proceeded towards the shrine of Sri Senthil/Sri Subramanya. When He was praying fervently to Lord Muruga He saw the serpent, AdiSeshan crawling towards the sanctum sanctorum. At the same time, the Sage was blessed with the Holy Vision and words gushed out extemporaneously in bhujanga metre. In Sanskrit 'bhujanga' means snake. Bhujanga metre suggests a snake gliding along. Sage Sri Shankaracharya/ Sri Adi Shankara sang the Sri Subramanya Bhujanga there and was cured.
